Floyd Mayweather and the entire boxing community got some bad news on Tuesday. His uncle, Roger Mayweather, has passed away at the age of 58, Floyd’s camp confirmed to TMZ Sports.

“Roger was a KEY member of Floyd’s training team — and sculpted him into becoming the global phenom he is today. Many considered Roger the best trainer in the world,” the gossip site reported Tuesday afternoon.

Mayweather trained the likes of Julio César Chávez and Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini throughout his legendary career. He was also a two-time champion, holding the WBA lineal super featherweight and light welterweight titles from 1987-89.

Floyd had previously opened up about his uncle’s failing health years back. According to TMZ Sports, the two were close.

Our thoughts go out to the Mayweather family and the entire boxing community during these most difficult of times.
