Philadelphia Eagles veteran pass rusher Vinny Curry has long been on the chopping block. The defending champs have spent the past couple weeks looking to either get Curry to take a pay cut or find potential trade partners. That’s no longer going to be the case.

According to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo, the Eagles have released the former second-round pick.

The insider goes on to note that Curry had a trigger on his deal that would have guaranteed $5 million of his $9 million salary for the 2018 season. By releasing Curry, Philadelphia saves that $5 million in cap room. This is just over two calendar years after Philadelphia inked him to a five-year, $47.3 million extension.

This move comes after Philadelphia acquired Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Bennett in a trade with Seattle earlier in the offseason.

Curry, 29, was a second-round pick of the Eagles back in 2012. He recorded 42 tackles and three sacks in 16 games (all starts) last season.
