Report: Eagles could pursue trade for Patriots’ All-Pro OL

The Philadelphia Eagles fought through a myriad of injuries during the 2019 NFL season and things are already off to a rough start this year. Now down one of their most integral players, the Eagles could reportedly be open to exploring a blockbuster trade with the New England Patriots.

Philadelphia Eagles interested in Patriots’ All-Pro Joe Thuney

Offensive lineman Brandon Brooks has emerged as one of the NFL’s best guards in recent years. After suffering a torn Achilles this offseason, though, the Eagles are in need of stability along the offensive line with question marks at left tackle and right guard.

Fortunately for Philadelphia, an All-Pro talent could be available. The New England Patriots placed the franchise tag on guard Joe Thuney this offseason, but shopped him around the league during the 2020 NFL Draft.

According to NFL insider Albert Breer, the Eagles “really like” Thuney and have been a fan of his game for quite some time. Now that a need has developed at guard, the Eagles are viewed as a team that could easily jump in later this summer to trade for Thuney.

Given Philadelphia’s intentions on contending this season, entering the year with concerns about left tackle Andre Dillard and an unproven guard would be problematic. Given how much the Eagles have invested in Wentz, trading for Thuney would be a wise decision.
