Report: Dolphins sign Pro Bowl LB Lawrence Timmons

The Miami Dolphins have made their first real big splash of free agency, reportedly signing former Pittsburgh Steelers Pro Bowl middle linebacker Lawrence Timmons to a two-year, $12 million contract.

Timmons, 30, was a first-round pick of Pittsburgh back in 2007. In 10 seasons with the team, he recorded 100-plus tackles six times while earning a trip to the Pro Bowl back in 2014. It’s a rather big move for Miami as the team looks to add another thumper to its front seven alongside Kiko Alonso.

This past season saw the Florida State product record 114 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble and 2.5 sacks. Simmons has been Pittsburgh’s leading tackler in six of the past seven seasons.

Unlike most of the deals signed in free agency, this is a true two-year contract. A total of $11 million out of the $12 million he signed for is guaranteed, pretty much meaning the veteran will be in a Dolphins uniform through the 2018 season.
