New Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel will retain defensive coordinator Josh Boyer, multiple outlets reported Friday.

Boyer joined former coach Brian Flores’ staff in 2019, working that season as the cornerbacks coach and defensive passing game coordinator. He was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2020.

The Dolphins finished 15th in total defense and 16th in scoring defense in 2021. Miami allowed just 11.7 points per game during a seven-game winning streak from Nov. 7 to Dec. 27.

Boyer, 45, previously worked under Bill Belichick with the New England Patriots as a defensive assistant (2006-08), defensive backs coach (2009-11) and cornerbacks coach (2012-18).
