The Miami Dolphins could be in the market for a new quarterback, and it’s possible they use wide receiver Jarvis Landry as a sweetener to move up in the 2018 NFL draft.
According to Tony Pauline of DraftInsider.com, “several in the league” believe the Dolphins could package Landry with the No. 11 overall pick to secure one of the top quarterback prospects. Pauline notes UCLA’s Josh Rosen is the speculated top choice.
This would make plenty of sense for Miami, which has an adequate yet unspectacular starter in Ryan Tannehill. He’s better than many options, but Tannehill is already 29 years old and missed all of 2017 due to a knee injury.
Plus, the Dolphins would only be responsible for $4.6 million if they cut the Texas A&M product this offseason, per Spotrac. There’s a real chance Miami determines Tannehill’s future depending on what happens in the draft.
And that’s why Landry is now so valuable.
Though the front office recently slapped the franchise tag on him, Landry probably isn’t worth the long-term price to the Dolphins. Having a high-volume receiver is nice, yet it doesn’t matter if the quarterback isn’t a Super Bowl-caliber player.
If Miami believes Rosen, Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield or Josh Allen is that quarterback, Landry could be the collateral necessary to help the Dolphins secure one.
