Tua Tagovailoa and Joe Burrow are the top two quarterbacks of the 2020 NFL Draft class, but Utah State’s Jordan Love is getting a ton of buzz as the third-best option.
Love had a very nice combine showing Thursday, and the reports coming out of Indianapolis indicate he may end up being a top-10 pick, with the Miami Dolphins showing particular interest.
Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald reported that the Dolphins may rank Love ahead of Oregon product Justin Herbert, who also had a very strong combine Thursday. He also shared that, despite a ton of reports indicating the Dolphins are being very active exploring trades, Miami may feel better about standing pat and using its three first-round picks.
“So barring a series of trade-ups — or something crazy happening like the Redskins taking a quarterback at 2 — the Dolphins will probably have their choice of Herbert and Love at 5. And while Herbert for now seems to have the edge, don’t totally discount them taking the latter.”
This report meshes well with what Ian Rapoport of NFL Media shared about the buzz surrounding Love at the combine.
“Of all the quarterback names here in Indianapolis that have been buzzing the hallways, late-night bars and restaurants, Jordan Love much more so than anyone,” Rapoport said per NFL.com. “I’ve talked to general managers, assistant GMs, coaches, they all wanted to see how this guy threw because his buzz is kind of building. We’ve all kind of assumed that he’s a first-round quarterback. I would not be surprised now, upper-end of the first round, maybe even heading up into the top 10.”
Now, it’s important to remember it’s lying season in the NFL. So take these reports with a grain of salt.
However, Love has been getting first-round buzz since last college football season when he lit up opposing defenses on a weekly basis playing for Utah State.
It’s going to be fascinating to see what happens as teams needing a quarterback make their moves in April.
