Report: Dave Doeren not leaving NC State for Tennessee

And so the Tennessee Volunteers head coaching search continues. Fresh off erroneous reports that the team was set to hire Purdue head man Jeff Brohm, comes this somewhat shocking news.

According to Pete Thamel of Yahoo! Sports, North Carolina State head coach Dave Doeren, a candidate for the Tennessee job, has decided to stay with the Wolfpack.

In the past, the Volunteers would have been seen as coaching upgrade over North Carolina State. That’s not longer really the case. Tennessee is coming off a disastrous 4-8 season, fired head coach Butch Jones and found itself mired in an embarrassing situation with Greg Schiano.

Meanwhile, Doeren has built up the Wolfpack program to national relevance. They are coming off an 8-4 regular season and should find themselves in a pretty big bowl. It will be the program’s fourth consecutive bowl appearance under Doeren.
