Report: Darren McFadden injured elbow trying not to drop cell phone

Darren McFadden

Darren McFadden will be out at least “a couple of months” as he recovers from elbow surgery. Thanks to running backs coach Gary Brown, we now know what happened to the Dallas Cowboys running back.

While he’s had a few great moments on the field, injuries have defined McFadden’s NFL career. This one will be different. Anyone can drop a cell phone. Still, the chain of events between dropping a cell phone and ending up in surgery because of it are certainly unlucky, if nothing else.

If McFadden is out for a couple months, it likely means he’ll be out until the preseason or maybe the beginning of training camp at the earliest. Even if he’s back by the time the regular season starts, it will certainly take some time to get into football shape.

On the field, this will likely get Ezekiel Elliott even more reps and early season action, along with Alfred Morris. The saving grace of this injury is that at the very least, it will give Dallas a good early look at the fourth overall pick.

McFadden is coming off one of the best years of his career. He played in all 16 games in 2015, started 10, and rushed for 1,089 yards at 4.6 yards per carry. He also added 40 receptions for 328 yards.
