Since former Boston Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein joined the Chicago Cubs as their president of baseball operations back in 2011, the organization has enjoyed a vast amount of success.
Now, heading into a postseason where they are seen as favorites to win the World Series, the Cubs have reportedly awarded Epstein for his hard work.
There’s no doubt that Epstein deserves this extension. What he’s done to build a legitimate contender in Chicago has been nothing short of amazing.
More so than the big-named free-agent signings the Cubs have made in the recent past, Epstein’s ability to field a young roster is what should be taken into account here.
From the trade for All-Star shortstop Addison Russell to the selections of Kris Bryant and Javier Baez in the draft, there’s a whole lot that’s gone into building what should be a perennial contender in the National League.
Whether that equates to the Cubs’ first World Series title in over a century remains to be seen. It, however, does mean that Epstein will be in it for the long haul.
