Report: Cowboys will not pursue Adrian Peterson

Adrian Peterson

Conflicting reports have now emerged regarding the Dallas Cowboys and soon-to-be free agent running back Adrian Peterson. Earlier on Tuesday, a report came out suggesting that owner Jerry Jones and the Cowboys would go after Peterson to team up with young stud Ezekiel Elliott (more on that here).

This came mere hours after the Minnesota Vikings announced that they would not pick up the $18 million option on Peterson for the 2017 season, making him a free agent when the new league year starts next month.

Now comes this report from Charean Williams of the Star-Telegram indicating that the Cowboys will not pursue the future Hall of Fame running back.

“A team source said the Cowboys are ‘not a fit’ for Peterson with Ezekiel Elliott on the roster,” the report read.

This seems to make a ton of sense. Why would the Cowboys use the limited capital they have in free agency to add to a position that’s already considered a strength? Elliott put up nearly 2,000 total yards in a dominating performance as a rookie this past season. Meanwhile, Peterson has played a grand total of 20 games since the end of the 2013 season.
