Report: Cowboys have no interest in Earl Thomas, Landon Collins

On the very same day that the New York Giants decided to let Pro Bowl safety Landon Collins test free agency, we’re starting to hear more about the Dallas Cowboys’ pursuit of an upgrade at that position.

Long linked to Texas native Earl Thomas in free agency, it now looks like the Cowboys are not interested in either Thomas or Collins.

As Calvin Watkins of The Athletic notes, it’s all about what promises to be a strong market for both safeties.

Thomas’ former teammate with the Seattle Seahawks, Richard Sherman, noted last week that the safety preferred to sign with Dallas if all offers were the same.

Unfortunately, another report at about the same time noted that Thomas wants to become the NFL’s highest-paid safety. Dallas simply doesn’t have the cap room to sign ET to a deal of that ilk.

The Cowboys must think more about retaining their three cores pieces on offense over the long term. That includes quarterback Dak Prescott, running back Ezekiel Elliott and wide receiver Amari Cooper. Dallas also placed the franchise tag on Pro Bowl defensive end Demarcus Lawrence earlier this week.
