It appears that holdout running back Ezekiel Elliott and the Dallas Cowboys continue to be at an impasse.
A report earlier on Tuesday indicated that Dallas had made Elliott an offer that would come close to the record-setting contract Todd Gurley signed with the Los Angeles Rams.
That might not be the case. According to Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram, Dallas has not made a new offer to Mr. Elliott.
With less than two weeks remaining until the start of training camp, it appears that things are not close regarding a new contract for Elliott.
Dallas was said to be offering a deal in the ball park of what Le’Veon Bell signed with the New York Jets back in March. That’s obviously not going to get it done.
In the meanwhile, rookie mid-round pick Tony Pollard has performed well in Elliott’s stead. Whether this means the Cowboys will place Elliott on the trade block remains to be seen. But don’t bank on it.
Owner Jerry Jones has made these contract negotiations very public. It’s something Elliott and his camp are not necessarily fond of.
The longer this draws out, the uglier it promises to get. That’s for sure.
