The Dallas Cowboys have reportedly found their man and are “focused on hiring” former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy to replace Jason Garrett.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media shared that the two sides are “currently in talks” and that the Cowboys appear to “have their guy.”
This news comes roughly an hour after Michael Lombardi of The Athletic tweeted that Dallas had made its choice.
Further evidence that McCarthy is the man in Dallas came from Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, via ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
McCarthy reportedly gave an “impressive” interview with the Cowboys initially, and it went so well he stayed in Dallas an extra day over the weekend. That extra day appears to have expanded, and now it seems like only a matter of time before McCarthy is announced as the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.
Other reported candidates for the job included former Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis, along with hot college coaches like Matt Rhule and Lincoln Riley.
McCarthy certainly has a wealth of experience and brings an offensive-minded approach to the ‘Boys. During his tenure with the Packers, he went 125-77-2 in the regular season, 10-8 in the playoffs and won a Super Bowl.
