As Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett prepares for potentially his final game, reports have already begun to swirl surrounding who owner Jerry Jones might target to replace him. Among the potential options, Jones could reportedly explore a trade for Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Jones has been a fan of Zimmer’s work and could even explore a trade for the defensive-minded coach, if he becomes available this offseason.

Zimmer has helped the Vikings become a perennial contender in the NFC since taking over as head coach in 2014. After winning seven games in his first season, Minnesota has made the playoffs in three of its past five seasons under Zimmer with double-digit wins in those respective years.

Of course, convincing the Vikings to trade Zimmer would be difficult. While he has burned through several coordinators in recent years, the team’s outstanding defense and emergence of a reliable offense has kept it near the top of the NFL.

Perhaps, Zimmer could become available for trade if the Vikings suffer a first-round exit in the playoffs. For now, it appears to be another potential option for Jones to pursue after he inevitably fires Garrett.
