The Dallas Cowboys are facing a couple important deadlines when it comes to impending free agent quarterback Dak Prescott. Dallas has until March 12 to place the franchise tag on their Pro Bowl signal caller. Less than a week after that, free agency starts around the NFL.

There’s some decent news on this front. For the first time since prior to the 2019 season back in September, the Cowboys and Prescott have sat down and talked. It came on Wednesday from the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

Baby steps. Given that Prescott wants a deal that will likely reset the quarterback market, continued dialogue is good news.

With that said, there’s still a lot to hash out here. Prescott has shown outward frustration with the pace of conversations with Dallas in the past. In turn, the Cowboys’ brass continues to be positive when it comes to a potential long-term deal.

Should that not come to fruition, Dallas will almost certainly place the franchise tag on Prescott on or before the March 12 deadline.
