Report: Colin Kaepernick wants out of San Francisco to play for Jets

Colin Kaepernick reportedly is not excited about playing for the San Francisco 49ers in 2016 and would rather play for the New York Jets, per Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

Mehta also reports the Jets might not exactly be upset about such an arrangement:

“The Jets, aware of Kaepernick’s desire to play for them, are intrigued, but in the early stages of their offseason planning and evaluation, according to sources. They’re also deathly afraid of any perception of tampering (see: Darrelle Revis situation, circa 2015),” Mehta writes.

This is an interesting report, and given the way last season went for Kap in San Francisco it’s not entirely implausible. One report said Kaepernick was “virtually certain” not to return to the organization midway through last year.

However, one would think the quarterback would be leaping at the opportunity to run a Chip Kelly-coached offense, which could potentially be perfect for Kaepernick’s skill set. Not only that, but Kelly has reportedly been enamored with Kaepernick for a long time.

That said, there are some things — or someones —  in New York that could be attractive for a quarterback, receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.

Also, perhaps Kaepernick is just looking for a fresh start. After an up-and-down first half-decade with the 49ers — the down part being freshest in his mind — perhaps he needs some new scenery to get his career back on track.

Then again, perhaps this is also just a rumor that will be laughable in six months.
