Under the guise of the collective bargaining agreement, former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has reportedly filed a grievance against NFL owners.

According to Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman, Kaepernick claims that owners have colluded against the free agent quarterback to keep him out of the league.

Kaepernick remains unemployed after he started the National Anthem protests around the NFL last season. Said protests have taken on a larger meaning since. But Kaepernick himself has remained somewhat out of the news due to his free agent status.

A grievance of this ilk is incredibly hard to win. As of right now, there’s only circumstantial evidence that owners have colluded against the enigmatic quarterback. Short of something breaking in that aspect, it’s hard to imagine Kaepernick winning the grievance.

With that said, we can pretty easily conclude that the NFLPA will be playing a role. It has backed Kaepernick at every turn and is mired in a legal battle with the NFL on at least one other front right now.

Kaepernick himself is said to be preparing a statement on the situation.

He’s also called on a high-profile lawyer to represent him in this case.

Some of Geragos’ most-infamous clients include the likes of Michael Jackson, Scott Peterson and Chris Brown. Needless to say, Kaepernick is all in here.

This is most definitely something to keep an eye on moving forward.
