In a move that will free up a ton of cap space for the Chicago Bulls, reports indicate that they have notified Carlos Boozer that he will be amnestied. This makes Boozer a potential free agent acquisition for a team that might be looking at second-tier options. It also means a whole lot more for a Bulls team that has been linked to some of the top free agents on the market.

It’s not known whether this is a precursor to a potential Carmelo Anthony deal, but all signs point to Chicago landing one or two top-tier free agents in the coming days. It wouldn’t have let Boozer go without knowing something was in the works.
The 32-year-old power forward averaged 13.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game last season. It was his worst statistical season since he was a rookie back in 2002-2003. He was due $16.8 million in the final year of his contract next season.
