According to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, the Chicago Bears have reportedly placed tight end Martellus Bennett on the trading block

Bennett, who has not shown up the Bears’ voluntary workouts this week, is reportedly banking on a contract extension. This despite the fact that he agreed to a four-year, $20.4 million deal with the team back in 2013. Bennett is on course to earn $4.9 million this upcoming season. He also has a $100,000 workout bonus.

In his two seasons with Chicago, Bennett has posted 155 receptions for 1,675 yards and 11 scores.

News of Bennett being on the block comes shortly after reports surfaced that Bears’ running back Matt Forte may be holding out of voluntary practice because of his expiring contract.

It’s important to note that Bennett was suspended for five days by the Bears last season for having a poor attitude in practice and sparking a fight with cornerback Kyle Fuller.

With how fast tight end Jimmy Graham was snatched up by the Seattle Seahawks when placed up for trade, it would not be at all surprising to see the 28-year-old Bennett quickly grabbed by a team in need of improvement at the tight end position.

Look for something to potentially go down during the three-day NFL draft later this week.
