The signs have all been pointing to this, and now Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is reporting the Los Angeles Chargers have “moved on” from Philip Rivers.
Rivers is moving his entire, and very large, family to Florida “permanently,” per ESPN last week. He seemed to realize after the final game of the regular season that his time may be up with the Chargers and made it clear he will continue to play even if he wasn’t coming back.
After the news broke of his move to Florida, it wasn’t long before the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were mentioned as a viable landing spot for the 38-year-old gunslinger. He would fit the Bruce Arians mold to perfection, and the Bucs have some of the best playmakers in the league.
Rivers could have a strong 2020 campaign for a number of franchises (more on that here).
Whatever happens, it’s going to represent a huge change for a player who spent his entire career with the Chargers. As for the franchise itself, Los Angeles is in the market for another quarterback, and the latest mock drafts point to Rivers’ successor.
