Report: Cavaliers parting ways with GM David Griffin

David Griffin is leaving the Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers fell short of repeating as NBA champs this past season. Now they’ll be going in a new direction after reportedly parting ways with general manager David Griffin.

This is pretty significant news all by itself. But when you consider the Cavaliers are at the center of a number of NBA trade rumors this Monday, it’s all the more startling.

Griffin has been with the Cavaliers since 2010 and has been the general manager since LeBron James came back to Cleveland in 2014.

Perhaps this move signals that he and James himself were too much at odds about the direction of the team. After all, we know James was upset about the team’s lack of point guard depth during the season.

Whatever happens next, Griffin won’t be a part of it. Whether that means a positive or negative overall direction in the years to come remains to be seen.
