LeBron James and Dan Gilbert were supposedly working as a team to build the Cleveland Cavaliers into perennial championship contenders. Then on Monday, Gilbert and general manager David Griffin parted ways, along with assistant general manager Trent Redden in a sweeping move that will have lasting ramifications.
And he reportedly didn’t consult LeBron James.

Man, how quickly things can change in pro sports, especially when dealing with an owner who has grand ideas about running the show.
James had previously advocated for Gilbert to land an extension, as ESPN’s Brian Windhorst mentioned.
“It makes no sense why he shouldn’t get an extension,” James told ESPN. “He’s pulled every move — he’s tried to make every move happen — to better this team to be able to compete for a championship. So we wouldn’t be in this position, obviously, without him and without the guys that are here — from the coaching staff to the players to Griff. He’s been a big piece of it.”
