The Los Angeles Chargers have locked up one of the best lock-down cornerbacks in the NFL for a few more years. Casey Hayward reportedly landed a three-year extension that pays him $20 million guaranteed and can pay up to $36 million.
Hayward signed a three-year deal worth just over $15 million back in 2016 and was due to make just over $5 million before landing this deserved contract.
The cornerback came on extremely strong for the Chargers the past two years, earning two Pro Bowl bids and two All-Pro (second team) selections in 2016 and 2017. He also racked up 11 interceptions during that span and scored a touchdown on a return and is one of just a few who could successfully argue with Jalen Ramsey about who is better.
Needless to say, locking him up on a reasonable deal was a smart move by general manager Tom Telesco, who still has some work left to do to keep safety Tre Boston from bolting in free agency.
