The New York Mets have conducted the most thorough managerial search in baseball this offseason. Now after interviewing eight candidates, Carlos Beltran will reportedly be brought back for another interview.

According to SportsNet New York’s Andy Martino, New York is scheduled to bring Beltran back for a second in-person interview. It’s the first known callback of the candidates New York interviewed.

Beltran reportedly emerged as a serious candidate earlier this month and momentum continues to move in his favor. According to Martino’s report, Beltran has support from Omar Minaya and Allard Baird, two influential executives in New York’s front office.

The 42-year-old has extensive ties to the Mets given he played for them from 2005-’11. He interviewed for the New York Yankees’ managerial job in 2017 before the team hired Aaron Boone. Beltran later joined the Yankees as an adviser to general manager Brian Cashman.

Given Beltran’s baseball expertise, extensive experience, ability to relate to players and his bilingual skills, he could be a compelling hire for New York.
