Report: Cardinals RB David Johnson holding out for new contract

Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson will reportedly hold out of his team’s mandatory minicamp this week as he looks for a new contract.

This really shouldn’t come as a surprise. Johnson is one of the most underpaid players in the entire league, due to the fact that he was selected in the third round out of Northern Iowa back in 2015. As such, he’s due to make just $1.88 million this year, with hardly any of that guaranteed.

Johnson did suffer a season-ending injury last year, too, which only further gives him reason to pause about putting his body at risk without any real guaranteed money coming his way.

One of the league’s best running backs, Johnson put up 2,118 yards and 20 touchdowns during the 2016 season.
