The Milwaukee Bucks did not get the news they were hoping for surrounding reigning NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Two days after suffering a knee injury during Friday night’s loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Greek Freak has been diagnosed with a sprained knee. His status will be known within the next week.

This could very well be a long-term injury for Giannis. An injury of this ilk normally takes weeks to recover from.

Sitting pretty at 53-10 on the season, Milwaukee can afford to take it slow with Antetokounmpo. It is 8.5 games ahead of the Toronto Raptors for the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

Giannis is averaging 29.6 points, 13.7 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game this season. The injury could impact his ability to repeat as the MVP.
