Jaguars sign Joe Schobert

It’s not like the Cleveland Browns have an excess of Pro Bowlers or something. Even then, the long-downtrodden team is reportedly set to move on from impending free-agent Pro Bowl linebacker Joe Schobert.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the Browns are not willing to meet Schobert‘s asking price of $10-plus million annually.

“Browns GM Andrew Berry met with linebacker Joe Schobert’s agent, Joe Panos, in Indianapolis, and the two sides parted with the belief that Schobert will not be back with the Browns because they’re not prepared to pay him the double-digit millions he stands to make on the open market,” the report noted.

This is typical Cleveland.

The Browns selected Schobert in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft after the linebacker’s stellar career at Wisconsin.

He’s since morphed into one of the best off-ball backers in the game. Last season saw Schobert record 133 tackles, nine passes defended and four interceptions.

He led the NFL with 144 tackles back in 2017, earning a Pro Bowl nod in the process.
