Report: Browns reached out to the Patriots about Jimmy Garoppolo

We can’t say that the Cleveland Browns give up easily. As the Browns themselves made three picks in the NFL Draft’s first round, their brass was reportedly busy making another call to the New England Patriots about backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

Unfortunately for the Browns, those overtures were once again flatly denied.

By the end of Thursday’s action, Cleveland had three first-round picks in which to work with. It also acquired an additional first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft in a trade with the Houston Texans. That brings the team’s total to five picks in the first two rounds of next year’s draft.

Needless to say, the Browns could have offered a bounty to New England for its soon-to-be free agent quarterback. Even then, it appears that the Pats are hellbent on keeping Garoppolo around as insurance for Tom Brady.

Weird times, indeed.
