Report: Browns Facing Loss of Draft Pick, Fines and Suspension for “Textgate”

Cleveland Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot of the Northeast Ohio Media Group is reporting some startling information regarding a scandal that has been swept under the rug due to other issues around the league.

According to the respected writer, sources from within the NFL are indicating that the Cleveland Browns are facing multiple penalties stemming from an investigation that the team engaged in electronic communication activity that is against league rules.

Original reports indicated that someone had sent texts to the Browns sideline during games this past regular season.

Kay Cabot is now reporting that Browns general manager Ray Farmer is the one responsible for the texts.

The Browns and general manager Ray Farmer are facing possible sanctions from the NFL for “Textgate,” including a multigame suspension for Farmer, and a fine and loss of draft pick for the Browns, league sources told Northeast Ohio Media Group.

For his part, Farmer didn’t deny that he was behind the texts when posed with questions about the controversy during the Senior Bowl late last month.

The Cleveland-based scribe went on to indicate that the league’s investigation of this matter is expected to wrap up within the next three weeks, at which point the Browns will know exactly what type of penalties they are going to face.

It’s yet another major issue for a Browns’ organization that has continually been in the news for all the wrong reasons.

Rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel admitted himself into rehab last week while Josh Gordon was officially suspended by the league for at least a year after failing an alcohol test.
