San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick may have balked at the idea of taking a pay cut to join the Cleveland Browns.
But it’s becoming readily apparent that he’s going to have to take less than the $11.9 million he’s set to earn in 2016 if he is to ultimately find a way out of San Francisco.
A report earlier this week suggested that Kaepernick would have to take a pay cut in order to facilitate any trade to the Denver Broncos.
Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole now has firm numbers regarding said report:
Source indicated that #Broncos have asked QB Colin Kaepernick to take a pay cut to approximately $7M for 2016 season if #49ers trade him.

By now it’s well known that the Broncos are not in the best of salary cap situations. Currently less than $3 million under the cap, Denver doesn’t even have the cash to sign its eventual draft class.
In this, it would still have to find a way to cut money in order to acquire the disgruntled Kaepernick.
Set to earn $11.9 million in base salary and another $2.4 million in bonus money, would Kaepernick be willing to see his salary cut in half to get out of San Francisco?
That’s the big question as Thursday’s 3 p.m. ET deadline for his salary to become guaranteed looms.
Until anything happens on the contract front, it appears San Francisco and Denver haven’t really exchanged hard proposals in any potential deal.
As of right now, the defending champions would be going into off-season activities with Mark Sanchez as the team’s starting quarterback.
