The Houston Texans have reportedly signed quarterback Brock Osweiler away from the Denver Broncos, per Rand Getlin of NFL Network.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter and CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora both quickly confirmed the report, which gives the Texans a potential face of the franchise quarterback for the first time since they thought David Carr would fill that role 14 years ago.

La Canfora commented that the “Broncos would only go so high,” indicating Osweiler was definitely pitting the two sides against one another. That Houston came out on top of this bidding war isn’t shocking at all, considering John Elway’s tenous salary cap situation entering free agency.

Osweiler passed for 1,967 yards last year with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions, going 5-2 in his seven starts. It could be argued that if not for his two turnovers against the San Diego Chargers he’d have been quarterbacking instead of Peyton Manning in Super Bowl 50. Needless to say, he had a lot to do with Denver’s Super Bowl run.

Houston is also targeting running back Lamar Miller, which would also be huge for the organization.
