Report: Braves, Red Sox scouting Marcus Stroman

As the MLB trade deadline draws closer, contenders are busy sending scouts across the country to watch some of the top available targets. When Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Marcus Stroman took the mound on Friday, representatives from multiple teams were on hand to watch him throw.

According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox are among the teams with scouts in attendance for Stroman’s start against the Detroit Tigers.

Of course, Atlanta and Boston aren’t alone on their visit to Detroit. The New York Yankees are also reportedly in attendance and have interest in acquiring Stroman.

As mentioned by Morosi, Detroit’s All-Star closer Shane Greene could also be of significant interest to the Red Sox given their bullpen issues this year.

It’s certainly understandable why so many teams are intrigued by him. The 28-year-old is under team control through the 2020 season and has pitched very well this year with a 3.25 ERA and 1.27 WHIP entering Friday’s start.

Given the Blue Jays are in the midst of a rebuild, it would be a surprise if Stroman is still with the team after the trade deadline. This could even be his last start with the Blue Jays if Toronto finds a deal it likes.
