Report: Braves acquire All-Star closer Shane Greene from the Tigers

Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Braves are doing some work when it comes to their pitching staff. A day after acquiring veteran Chris Martin from the Texas Rangers, the first-place team has traded for Detroit Tigers All-Star closer Shane Greene.

This is an absolutely huge move as the National League Playoff race plays out over the next couple months.

Greene, 30, has pitched to a 1.18 ERA and 0.87 WHIP while saving 22 games for Detroit on the season. He’ll slide right as Atlanta’s closer as the young team looks to come out of the NL this fall.

The return for Detroit is not yet known at this point.
