After landing their first choice at head coach in Matt Nagy, the Chicago Bears got more good news on the coaching front. Per Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, who could have signed with any team, has agreed to stay in Chicago to coach the defense.

This news is pretty much the best possible scenario for the young Chicago defense. Fangio is one of the true masters at his craft at the NFL level and is among the best in recent memory at turning lemons into lemonade.
During the 2017 season, Chicago’s defense ranked in the top-10 in total defense, passing defense and scoring defense. This, despite not having many “stars,” and despite an offense that did no favors for this unit.
On top of keeping Vangio in house, this move keeps him from potentially joining Chicago’s rival, the Green Bay Packers, who had serious interest in signing him.
