Report: Bartolo Colon signs minor league deal Rangers

Reports over the weekend indicating that Bartolo Colon was on the verge of signing a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers have now been confirmed. The 44-year-old Colon will officially make the Rangers his 11th team over the course of a career that has spanned three decades.

The expectation here is that Colon will vie for the fifth starting spot in the Rangers’ rotation during spring training. Considering it is a minor league deal, there are likely no guarantees unless he makes the 25-man roster heading into Opening Day.

Colon pitched to a 7-14 record with a 6.48 ERA between Atlanta and Minnesota last season. He is one year removed from earning an All-Star appearance with the New York Mets.

The 21-year veteran has won 240 games over the course of his career, earning four All-Star appearances and a Cy Young award during that span.
