Report: Arizona Cardinals Picking Up Fifth-Year Option on WR Michael Floyd

After a down 2014 season, some speculated the Arizona Cardinals may not pick up wide receiver Michael Floyd’s fifth-year team option, meaning he would become a free agent after the 2015 season. Instead, the team has informed the former first-round pick it will keep him around for at least the 2016 season.

Floyd had only 47 receptions for 841 yards a year ago, but he did set a career high with six touchdowns. Following a 65-catch, 1,041-yard breakout campaign in 2013, he was expected to be the star in Arizona now that Larry Fitzgerald is on the back-end of his career, but that did not happen in Year 3.

He still may be the eventual replacement for Fitzgerald down the road, but enthusiasm has momentarily been curbed that he can produce as Fitz once did.

Floyd is set to earn $3.2 million in 2015, and his 2016 salary will be $7.3 million, according to Somers.
