Report: Amar’e Stoudemire to Sign with the Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks are on the verge of adding a big man to a needy frontcourt. According to multiple media reports, Dallas will sign former Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks big man Amar’e Stoudemire for the remainder of the season.

Stoudemire, a former All-Star, reached a buyout agreement with the Knicks earlier on Monday after both sides deemed it made sense for him to move on.

Never panning out in the Big Apple after signing a five-year, $99.7 million contract with New York back in 2010, Stoudemire averaged 12.0 points and 6.8 rebounds for the Knicks this season. The 32-year-old is about five years removed from playing at a high level.

With that said, Dallas needed to get some help upfront. He will likely come in as the top back up at both the power forward and center positions behind Dirk Nowitzki and Tyson Chandler respectively. This need was created after Dallas sent Brandan Wright packing in the Rajon Rondo deal.

Dallas is currently 36-19 and in fifth place in the ultra-competitive Western Conference. It also sits four games behind the Memphis Grizzlies in the Southwest Division.
