Report: Adam Gase has final say over Dolphins’ 53-man roster

Adam Gase is suddenly brimming with power as the new head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the freshly signed coach will have the final say over the team’s 53-man roster.

This puts Gase in rare company:

This is huge news. Think Chip Kelly. Think Bill Belichick. Both men have shown us the potential pitfalls and glorious triumphs this path can bring. Now Gase, in his first stint as a head coach, will navigate these deep waters.

No doubt Mike Tannenbaum, the team’s executive vice president of football operations, will still have plenty of power when it comes to bringing in talent to Miami.

That said, if Schefter’s report is true, Gase will be able to override Tannenbaum if he deems a certain player a poor fit for what he’s trying to accomplish.

It’s going to be a wild ride the next few years in Miami.

The Dolphins inked Gase to a five-year deal, and given the length of time the organization allowed Joe Philbin to either sink or swim, it seems like he’s going to get his chance to make a decent run at this head coaching thing.
