Report: 49ers bringing in Terrelle Pryor for workout as a WR

Terrelle Pryor

The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly bringing in Terrelle Pryor for a workout at the receiver position.

After starting out the season with a 1-3 record and seeing the offense sputter badly the past couple of games, the 49ers brass apparently feels there might be some benefit to having Pryor on the roster.

Rand Getlin of NFL Network first reported on this developing story. While he reports the 49ers are working him out as a receiver, he also notes Pryor’s previous position as a quarterback, which could be significant in the coming weeks, should the team bring him in.

This could just be nothing more than a routine workout. Teams bring guys in every week, but more often than not nothing comes of these visits. The New York Giants brought in Hakeem Nicks and Wes Welker last week but neither of those players were signed.

But given the well-documented struggles of 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who seems to be regressing by the week, perhaps there is more to this story than is being divulged. Blaine Gabbert is the only other quarterback on the roster at this time, and his in-game shortcomings are known to all.

Perhaps the 49ers are seeking a bit of insurance if Kaepernick continues to fall flat on his face, dragging the rest of the offense down with him.
