Report: 2017 All-Star Miguel Sano called up by Twins

As Eduardo Escobar heads to the Arizona Diamondbacks, his replacement will reportedly be a player many fans are familiar with.

According to LaVelle E. Neal III of The Star Tribune, Minnesota is calling up third baseman Miguel Sano from Triple-A Rochester.

Sano, who was sent down to the minors in June, will soon be back in Minnesota’s lineup. Upon his return, the Twins will be hopeful he can return to the form they saw from him as an All-Star in 2017.

The 25-year-old’s season got off to a rocky start in 2018. After slashing .203/.270/.405 in 37 games, the Twins optioned Sano to A-ball to get back in shape and rediscover success at the plate.

After a 19-game stint in High-A, Sano was promoted to Rochester. In nine games for the Red Wings, the third baseman posted a .267/.389/.500 slash line with an .889 OPS and six walks.

Sano should return to immediate playing time now with Escobar out the door. If he can return to his All-Star form at the plate, Minnesota will have filled the void left by Escobar immediately and gained three prospects in the process.
