The New York Mets dealt right-handed reliever Miguel Castro to the Yankees on Sunday in exchange for left-handed reliever Joely Rodriguez.

Castro, 27, was 3-4 with a 3.45 ERA in 69 games (two starts) for the Mets last season, striking out 77 batters in 70 1/3 innings.

His career totals include an 11-22 record, a 4.13 ERA and seven saves in 299 games (four starts) with the Toronto Blue Jays (2015), Colorado Rockies (2015-16), Baltimore Orioles (2017-20) and Mets (2020-21).

Rodriguez, 30, was 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA in 21 relief appearances with the Yankees last season after being acquired in the Joey Gallo trade with the Texas Rangers on July 29.

Rodriguez’s career numbers include a 3-5 record and a 4.61 ERA in 102 bullpen appearances with the Philadelphia Phillies (2016-17), Rangers (2020-21) and Yankees.

Castro is due to earn $2.62 million this season and Rodriguez is on the books for $2 million, however he will receive a $500,000 assignment bonus that will be paid by the Mets. Castro will be a free agent after this season, while Rodriguez won’t be eligible for free agency until after the 2025 campaign.

This is just the third trade between the Yankees and Mets since 2005. The Yankees acquired infielder/outfielder L.J. Mazzilli from the Mets for outfielder Kendall Coleman in April 2018. In December 2014, the Yankees acquired right-hander Gonzalez German from the Mets for cash considerations.
