Redskins TE Jordan Reed to start camp on PUP list

Jordan Reed released

Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed might very well be the most-dominant player at his position outside of Rob Gronkowski. The issue with Reed has been his health.

He missed a total of four games last season after suffering a should injury on Thanksgiving. All said, Reed has yet to play a full 16-game slate in his first four NFL seasons.

There was, however, optimism that Reed’s injury proneness was behind him. He looked dominant during minicamp back in June and was expected to take over as Kirk Cousins’ favorite target in the passing game.

Unfortunately for fans in the nation’s capital and Cousins himself, it looks like Reed’s injury history is not behind him. To the surprise of many, the tight end will start training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

There’s no indication as to what is bothering Reed, but it could very well be a continuation of his prior shoulder and concussion issues.

The 27-year-old tight end put up 66 receptions for 686 yards and six touchdowns last season. He’s averaging a robust 5.4 receptions throughout his career.

The good news here is that Reed can be taking off the PUP list at any point during camp. So while fantasy owners the world over freak out, the Redskins could just be playing it cautious with him.
