The Washington Redskins could very well change their name after decades of debate about whether the term “Redskins” is racist.
In fact, Washington released a statement earlier on Friday indicating that it is looking into the situation after several companies threatened to pull their sponsor relationships with the NFL team.
One Redskins player is now chiming in.

To be clear, Haskins was not giving his opinion whether the Redskins should change their name. It was more about if they had to, he’d support Red Tails.
This idea has been making its rounds on social media since FedEx announced its intentions to end the company’s relationship with the Redskins if they didn’t change their name.
The history of Red Tails suggests it could make sense for Washington
The Red Tail term comes from a group of African-American pilots during World War II. The group is better known as the Tuskegee Airmen and have also been called Red Tail Angels. This was primarily because of the red paint on the tails of their aircraft.
Even during World War II, African-American soldiers were subjected to the oppressive Jim Crow Laws that impacted the mainland in the United States.
This would obviously be a way for Daniel Snyder and Co. to get with the modern times. Whether that happens remains to be seen.
But the logos some have put forth are awesome.
