The Boston Red Sox clearly liked what they saw from Alex Cora in his first season with the team. On Wednesday, they announced a contract extension with the manager.
Cora’s previous deal was signed through 2020, with a club option for 2021.
He certainly deserves this extension. The Red Sox had one of the best start-to-finish seasons in MLB history in 2018. They won an MLB high 108 games in the regular season.
Then despite going against two 100-win teams (the New York Yankees and Houston Astros) and a Los Angeles Dodgers team coming off of its sixth-straight division title, Boston went 11-3 in the postseason en route to a World Series win.
Cora is only one season into his managerial career. But he made quite a first impression.
