With less than three weeks to go before the deadline, trade season officially kicked off Saturday around the MLB world.

The Boston Red Sox announced on Saturday that they have acquired veteran starter Andrew Cashner from the division-rival Baltimore Orioles for minor league position players Noelberth Romero and Elio Prado.

Cashner, 32, will likely slot in as Boston’s fifth starter. He was having a tremendous season before the trade, pitching to a 9-3 record with a 3.83 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 17 starts. It’s much needed rotation help for the Red Sox.

Neither of the prospects heading to the Orioles in this trade ranked among the top 30 in Boston’s system at the start of the season, according to MLB.com.
