Reactions to MLB’s plan for a May return are mixed

MLB season COVID-19

Multiple media reports late Monday night suggested that Major League Baseball is eyeing May for the start of its 2020 season.

Said plan includes an increase in rapid COVID-19 testing and all games being played in Arizona without fans in attendance. Players, coaches and those important to the game itself would also pretty much be in isolation.

This is just one of several possibilities for MLB as it looks to salvage the season with the pandemic plaguing the United States. But it is the most concrete to date.

Reactions to the plan were mixed. Some simply love the idea of a real sport returning to action after all major North American leagues suspended their seasons last month.

Others were both skeptical and critical of the plan. As of Tuesday morning, the death toll pertaining to COVID-19 had reached nearly 11,000 in the United States with 368,000 cases. Testing has been an issue. Community spread of the disease continues.

This played a role in those questioning the plan. Let’s not even mention the logistical issues with such an idea. Travel, the Arizona communities, testing and player health.
