Tampa Bay Rays left-hander Jeffrey Springs exited Thursday afternoon’s game against the visiting Boston Red Sox with an apparent injury.

Springs delivered a high fastball that Justin Turner fouled off in the top of the fourth inning.

Springs paused due to discomfort and was flexing his hand, prompting the Rays coaches and trainers came out.

After throwing one very slow practice pitch, Springs took himself out of the contest.

Springs, 30, owns a 2-0 record with a 0.56 ERA in 16 innings. He has 24 strikeouts and four walks while allowing just four hits.

The only run he has surrendered was a first-inning solo homer to Boston’s Rob Refsnyder on Thursday.

The club’s starting staff is already without right-handers Zach Eflin (back stiffness) and Tyler Glasnow (oblique).
