Ray Rice, Chris Johnson reportedly not in plans for Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys enter training camp with many questions at the running back position. Ryan Williams was just cut, leading many to wonder if Ray Rice or Chris Johnson could soon be added in his stead. According to a report, Dallas won’t be pursuing either of them at this time.

Drew Davison of the Star-Telegram reports the Cowboys will play the wait-and-see game, content with their current players for the time being:

The Cowboys are not planning to sign a veteran running back such as Ray Rice or Chris Johnson, instead willing to wait and see how the internal guys perform, according to a source.”

The “internal guys” in this case comprise of Darren McFadden, Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar. This trio certainly has the potential to make hay behind the juggernaut offensive line of the Cowboys, and many within the organization believe that Randle, in particular, will do great things.

There will certainly be openings around the league for Rice and Johnson to potentially make it onto an NFL roster this summer. Both players are eager for a second chance—a chance to prove to everybody that they are still viable players in this league, despite what many have suggested.

Don’t be surprised if Dallas, or another running-back poor team, does end up calling one of them at some point.
