Ravens’ TE Benjamin Watson tears Achilles, out for the season

The Baltimore Ravens were bit by the injury bug a ton last season. It’s one of the primary reasons the team missed the playoffs for just the second time in the past eight years.

Unfortunately for the Ravens, it appears that they are not quite over last year’s injury issues. Starting tight end Benjamin Watson suffered a torn Achilles on the very first play of Saturday’s game against the Detroit Lions.

It appears that Watson suffered the torn Achilles simply slipping on the turf in Baltimore.

The tight end was signed away from the New Orleans Saints as a free agent this past spring and was expected to be Baltimore’s starter at that all-important position.

Watson, 35, is coming off a career season that saw him record 74 receptions for 825 yards and six scores. He was expected to be Joe Flacco’s safety valve between the hashes.
